Aston Villa winger Milner prepared to fight for England spot

Aston Villa winger James Milner knows there no guaranteed place in England's World Cup squad.

He said: "I have had competition all my footballing life so this is nothing new.

"When I was at Leeds United I played on the right and then we signed Jermaine Pennant on loan, so I ended up playing the whole season on the left.

"I feel equally as happy on the left and the right. Either side doesn't really matter to me.

"There is competition for places but that is a good thing."

Milner insists it is an honour to be among some of the best players in the world vying for a Three Lions' shirt and to have the chance to show the nation what he does week in, week out for Villa.

"You are coming up against the best players in the country for those spots," he said. "Competition in that battle will only make me a better player but don't forget I am training every day with Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor and there is competition there as well."
