Aston Villa swoop for Northampton winger Cameron

Aston Villa have raided Northampton's youth team for winger Courtney Cameron.

Cameron, a left-sided 16-year-old, has joined Villa's academy at Bodymoor Heath for an undisclosed fee from the League Two club. He follows fellow Cobblers youth-teamers Mark Randall and Anton Blackwood into the Premier League after the duo's recent move to Arsenal.

Northampton's head of youth Geoff Harrop said: "He is an attacking player, very athletic and has an excellent attitude.

"He has worked hard, listened well and he, just like Mark and Anton before him, is proof that local players are in good hands here at Northampton Town.

"We always pledge we will never stand in a player's way if that opportunity comes along and the deal is right for the club.

"We are developing a good reputation for developing players and not only are more and more of them filtering through to the first team, but Premier League clubs are monitoring the progress of a number of them before they even get that far and that is fantastic for the club and the individual players.

"We wish Courtney well with his future career and we look forward to following his progress."
