Middlesbrough midfielder Rhys Williams could be on his way to Aston Villa according to recent reports. The 23-year old Australian international has emerged as a transfer target for Villa boss Alex McLeish who could make a bid before the transfer deadline on Wednesday night (BST).
Williams is currently playing in central midfield in the Championship for 'Boro but is just as comfortable in central defence or at right-back and with McLeish looking to find a replacement for the departed Luke Young (to QPR).
McLeish used Williams' fellow Western Australian Chris Herd at right-back in the 0-0 draw with Wolves on Saturday and although the 22-year old picked up the Man of the Match award, he is keen to get Williams to Villa Park to strengthen his current squad.
Williams, who is a product of the Middlesbrough youth academy, was the subject of interest from Bolton Wanderers earlier this summer.
