Aston Villa hope to sign Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair for a cut-price fee.
The Birmingham Mail says Lambert has targeted the Manchester City misfit after seeing his goal-shy side net just 11 goals in 20 Premier League appearances.
Sinclair has a year-and-a-half remaining on his current contract but could leave for less than £3million as City are keen to offload him.
A season-long loan move may still be an option but the Birmingham Mail understands that both clubs are thought to favour a permanent switch.
Villa are in need of attacking reinforcements after their struggles in front of goal this season.
