Aston Villa's Herd out for remainder of season

A foot injury has forced Aston Villa midfielder Chris Herd to the sidelines for the rest of the campaign.

The 23-year old aggravated a foot fracture during training with Villa and will now miss the Birmingham clubs Premier League survival attempt as well as Australia's 2014 World Cup qualifier with Oman on March 26.

"It's pretty disappointing," Herd told SBS. "I was looking forward to playing a part in trying to help us stay in the Premier League and also hoping that I might have been called into the squad to face Oman.

"It's pretty gutting but these things happen in football and you have to just get on with it, stay positive and work on getting back to fitness.

"I am totally committed to hopefully one day playing for Australia. Injuries haven't helped me when I have been named in squads and I'll be cheering the boys on against Oman in what is a very important game."

Villa currently sits three points clear of the relegation zone and Herd feels they are in a good position to stay up despite him not being able to assist.

"I'd love to be out there trying to do my bit for the club," Herd added. "But the boys are showing great fight and have given themselves a huge chance of staying up."
