Aston Villa's Herd chooses Australia over Scotland

Aston Villa youngster Chris Herd has confirmed that he has pledged his allegiance to Australia over Scotland.

The 22-year old Perth-born midfielder/defender is eligible to play for Scotland because of his Scottish parents but he insists that he wants to represent Australia if he gets the chance at senior level.

"Obviously Australia is my country; it's where I've grown up, it's where I'm from. I want to play for Australia," he told Fox Sports FC.

"It's every kid's dream to play for their country and if I get the chance I'll be honoured."

Herd has played one Premier League match for Villa this season - a Man of the Match performance in a scoreless draw with Wolves in August - and has been an unused sub on four occasions.
