Aston Villa are ready to bid for Watford goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon.

Villa boss Roberto di Matteo intends to offer £2 million for the Romanian.

Pantilimon joined the Hornets 12 months ago from Sunderland, but found himself relegated to a backup role for veteran keeper Heurelho Gomes.

At Villa, he would be expected to challenge Brad Guzan for first-choice status under Di Matteo.

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri isn't expected to stand in Pantilimon's way should Villa firm up their interest.
