Aston Villa are close to finalising a deal to sign Jordan Veretout from Nantes.
According to Sky Sports, the 22-year-old French midfielder will undergo a medical at Bodymoor Heath on Friday before completing a permanent move to the West Midlands.
Veretout was previously a target for Leicester City but Nantes president Waldemar Kita indicated to L'Equipe recently that the France U21 international would join Villa as he preferred moving to Villa Park than the King Power Stadium.
"I am not going to go against the boy," he said.
"He is a boy who has never done us wrong, who played the game right until the end, contrary to others, who did not sulk."
Veretout will become Tim Sehrwood's seventh summer signing and fourth from the French Ligue 1, following Jordan Ayew, Jordan Amavi and Idrissa Gueye.
