Aston Villa No1 Friedel remains confident of club progress

Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel is confident they will maintain their progress this season.

Friedel has faith in manager Martin O'Neill and club owner Randy Lerner to work out what needs to be done for Villa to make the next step forward.

He said: "We are moving in the right direction at Villa. We were all disappointed we didn't finish fourth because that is what we were aiming for.

"But I am sure the gaffer and the chairman will figure out ways to push us to Champions League qualification.

"Let's put things into perspective. Last season was a great season. We had two trips to Wembley and with a bit of luck we could have won the Carling Cup.

"Then getting drawn in the FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea was tough. I always felt whoever scored the first goal would win that game and unfortunately it was them.

"We are moving ahead, in the right direction, and hopefully we won't stop until we get that fourth spot."
