Aston Villa assistant Ray Wilkins has revealed he was on the verge landing the manager's role at West Bromwich Albion.
Wilkins has revealed that he applied for the role at the Baggies, who play Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend, back in 2012 and was granted an interview with the club's top brass.
"I went and had a chat with (West Ham chairman) Jeremy Peace and (sporting director) Dan Ashworth and there was one other finance guy in there as well," Wilkins said.
"They were very pleasantly placed around the table so I couldn't get two in my eyeline. I sussed it and dragged my chair back so I couldn't get too close and I had each of them in my eyeline. They chose Steve (Clarke) in the end."
Wilkins also revealed he was considered for the vacant managerial role at Wolves three months earlier, following Mick McCarthy's sacking.
"I also went to have a chat with Steve Morgan at Wolves. That was when Terry Connor took it. They went down," Wilkins recalled.
