Aston Villa are expected to move for Alex McLeish following his resignation from Birmingham City.
The Scottish Sun says the Scot, who signed a new contract at St Andrew's in September, will walk away with 2½ years left on his £1million-a-year deal.
Villa's hierarchy held a meeting before the weekend to discuss their options following Roberto Martinez's decision to stay at Wigan.
And McLeish was talked about as a potential target, with owner Randy Lerner known to be an admirer.
McLeish was also talked about when Martin O'Neill left five days before the start of last season.
