Relegated Aston Villa are eyeing a move for West Bromwich Albion's James Chester.
The Daily Mirror reports that Roberto Di Matteo is looking to strengthen his defence before the end of the summer transfer window by ambitiously bringing in Chester from neighbours Albion.
The 27-year-old, who impressed for Wales at Euro2016, is seen as more of a bit-part player in Tony Pulis' Baggies setup and could be even permission to leave The Hawthorns if the offer is right.
Villa reportedly touched base with their West Midlands rivals regarding Chester but it appears as though Albion will only sell if they are successful in their pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion's Lewis Dunk.
Di Matteo's side lost their Championship opener 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday on the weekend while West Brom are preparing to take on Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
