Aston Villa are launching a bid for Bordeaux centre-forward Diego Rolan.

Villa boss Tim Sherwood is in the market for a new striker as he prepares to lose Christian Benteke to Liverpool for £32.5 million.

Sud Ouest says Sherwood is ready to spend a major slice of Benteke's fee to land Rolan.

The 22 year-old Uruguay international struck 15 goals in Ligue 1 last season.

Villa have already raided the French transfer market this past week for Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Amavi.
