Aston Villa defender Freddy Bouma fears for his playing future.

The Mirror says Bouma may have to retire as his injury problems have become so serious.

Bouma, 31, has not played since dislocating an ankle last July. He had hoped to return in the new year but was sidelined again after an abortive comeback in the reserves.

Now the left-back is recuperating at home in Holland and is having to consider his future.
