Aston Villa missed out on signing Dimitar Berbatov on deadline day.
The Bulgarian striker spoke with Villa officials at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday after he jetted into Birmingham airport and was picked up by close friend and Tim Sherwood's assistant manager Stiliyan Petrov.
However, Berbatov and the West Midlands club got nowhere near agreeing personal terms which essentially meant there was no deal on the table according to Sky Sports.
The former Tottenham, Manchester United and Fulham attacker was available on a free transfer after finishing up at AS Monaco at the end of last season but Villa were unable to push through a deal for the 34-year-old.
