Aston Villa face a fans backlash should Alex McLeish take the manager's job.
Eck is favourite for the post after resigning from Birmingham City yesterday.
Jonathan Fear, who edits the Aston Villa fanzine, said a move for McLeish would not be acceptable to fellow fans.
''I'm stunned that we would be looking to take on the manager of our local rivals who have recently been relegated,'' he told the Sunday Mercury.
''The best work he ever did for us was at Blues, by taking them down.
''The general reaction I have got from Villa fans that I have spoke to is 'please God, no. Anyone but him'.
''Our owner may have to batten down the hatches for a while after this, because there will undoubtedly be a negative backlash from fans.''
