Aston Villa confirm capture of Valencia's Carles Gil

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Carles Gil from Valencia.

The 22-year old Spanish attacking midfielder has joined the Villans on a four-and-a-half-year deal subject to international clearance for a reported fee of around £3.25million.

Villa boss Paul Lambert admitted that Gil's arrival would provide his side with some creative flair and some much-required cutting edge.

"We've been on the lookout for a creative player and he will certainly bring that extra element to the side," Lambert told the club's official website.

"He's only 22 years of age but he will come here and give us something I don't think we have at the moment. He can play either role, coming in off the sides or playing in behind as well.

"He can create chances and get those chances put away. He has a lot to offer and I know we can get the best out of him."

Gil arrives in Birmingham having spent the past two season on loan at Elche where he made over 60 appearances, some of those being alongside Colombian midfielder Carlos Sanchez, who joined Villa in the summer.
