Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness has confirmed plans to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Wyness admits the presence of former Chelsea captain John Terry can help them re-sign the England U21 international.

He said: “It does help in that way.

“As John said himself, he didn't want to be in a relegation battle and hopefully players might come and think 'I want to be with a promotion chasing team'."

Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan is also on their shopping list.
