The Daily Mail says Villa want Bolton goalkeeper Al Habsi to replace Brad Friedel.
The Oman No 1 spent the season on loan at Wigan, where he was named player of the year.
Al-Habsi, 29, will struggle to dislodge Bolton No 1 Jussi Jaaskelainen next season.
