Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood denies he pushed to sell Christian Benteke to Liverpool.

Sherwood rejected the idea he may have favoured the sale of Benteke in order to shape the squad in his image.

"You would be absolutely mental to throw away 42 per cent of your Premier League goals away.

"If we had anyway of stopping that from happening we would. 'It wouldn't have been a price that we would have taken if the clause wasn't there. Unfortunately it was from previous. Everyone looked at it and thought it was good money."
