Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish admits he considered signing West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster.

McLeish revealed he did think about approaching his Birmingham City for keeper Foster when he needed a goalkeeper during the summer.

Villa landed Shay Given instead while Foster lines up for West Brom today after joining them on loan from Birmingham.

But McLeish insisted: "I was thinking about Ben, there's no doubt about it.

"He's a terrific goalkeeper, but Shay seemed to make more sense for us."
