Aston Villa are ready to offer £12 million for West Ham defender Matthew Upson.

The Mirror says Martin O'Neill has been tracking the England centre-back for some time and is ready to make his move with Zat Knight on his way to Bolton and Martin Laursen retired.

West Ham will do business if they get a reasonable offer, while Upson is desperate to play in Europe to boost his hopes of making the World Cup squad.
