Aston Villa bid big for West Brom's Davies

Aston Villa have tabled a £6 million bid for West Brom defender Curtis Davies.

The Guardian says the offer includes several clauses that would see the transfer fee eventually rise to around £7m depending on player and club achievements, although it is highly unlikely that Albion's chairman, Jeremy Peace, will sanction Davies's departure on those terms.

Albion are believed to be looking for closer to £8m, a valuation that Villa could be willing to meet although Martin O'Neill will first consider offering a player as part of the deal.

Sources indicated last night that it is possible Spurs, keen to increase their defensive options, will match Villa's offer.
