Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has approached Spartak Moscow for winger Aiden McGeady.
The Mirror says McLeish is a big admirer of the tricky Spartak Moscow wide-man, who used to dazzle for Scottish giants Celtic when Big Eck was managing their arch-rivals Rangers.
However, McGeady has proved a big hit since he moved to Spartak last August and Villa would probably have to make a huge offer to land him.
The Irishman is an option for McLeish because Wigan are digging their heels in over French flier Charles N'Zogbia, pushing his price up to £10million.
If Villa can sign McGeady for less than that, they will make a move.
Although Spartak are in the middle of their domestic season, a bid of £8m may interest them if the money is paid up front.
