Aston Villa have missed out on Hajduk Split goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic.

The Daily Mail says a prospective £4.9million move for Kalinic last night collapsed over work permit issues.

Kalinic, 25, has been capped by Croatia but Villa were denied a work permit for his move to England and an appeal also surprisingly failed last night.

Garde saw the 6ft 7in goalkeeper as a replacement No 1 for Brad Guzan, who has been dropped in favour of back-up Mark Bunn recently.
