Benoit Assou-Ekotto has told new Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris to buck up his ideas.

Lloris is already moaning after seeing Brad Friedel preferred as manager Andre Villas-Boas' No1.

"It will not be easy for him because there is competition as stated by the coach," Assou-Ekotto told RMC. "Whether he's the goalkeeper of France or not, he will have to fight to win his place.

"We have a goalie who does not make mistakes, who is good and who is known and recognized in Britain ... To start, I think Lloris will be number 2. If our goalie makes no mistakes, there will be no reason to change."
