Assou-Ekotto admits Tottenham struggling to get motivated for Europa League

Tottenham fullback Benoit Assou-Ekotto cannot hide his disappointment playing in the Europa League.

Spurs kick off their Group A campaign with a trip to Greece on Thursday to face PAOK Salonika.

And Assou-Ekotto, 27, told the People: "Everyone at the club enjoyed last season in the Champions League and we want to get back there.

"Every player wants to play in the Champions League, as it is the best competition around.

"Our aim this season is to finish in the top four so we can do it again.

"On paper we have a squad good enough to go all the way in the Europa League, but I would prefer to finish fourth than win the Europa League.

"We will give our best in the Europa League, but it is not our main priority this season."
