Asian Football Confederation warns clubs over spectator behaviour

The AFC Disciplinary Committee has expressed its serious concern over the continuing bad behaviour of spectators, reports the official AFC website. The members were particularly concerned about the throwing of missiles and the bursting of incendiary devices like fire crackers, sound bomb and flares at the stadiums during matches.

The committee noted that more than 110 such cases had been recorded and dealt with by it between 2006 and now.

Chairman Lim Kia Tong said: "The Committee is of the unwavering view that such irresponsible and dangerous acts cannot be allowed to continue and will not be tolerated any longer.

"There is absolutely no compromise for the safety and security of fans, players and others who go into a stadium to watch the beautiful game, play the beautiful game or manage the beautiful game."

The members took particular note of a recent incident (outside the committee's jurisdiction) in which a Malaysian fan was blinded in the right eye when fragments from an exploding firecracker struck his eye during the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Malaysia and Singapore at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on 28 July, 2011.

The committee issued a stern warning that the Member Association or club concerned would be held fully responsible for any breach in security, which could result in financial penalties up to $1,000,000 or playing matches without spectators until AFC is satisfied that the problem has been stopped.
