Ashley insists he is not offloading Newcastle

Mike Ashley has made it vehemently clear that he is not about to sell Newcastle United.

Recent reports have suggested that the billionaire owner of the Magpies was looking to offload the club in order to up his stake in struggling Scottish outfit Rangers.

The Daily Telegraph had reported that Ashley was 'willing to listen to offers' on the club he has owned for seven years but a statement has been released confirming that Newcastle will remain under Ashley's control for the foreseeable future.

"The truth is Mike Ashley remains committed to Newcastle United," read the statement.

"For the avoidance of doubt, this means that for the remainder of this season and AT LEAST until the end of next season, Mike Ashley will not, under any circumstances, sell Newcastle United at any price."

50-year old Ashley, the founder of retail store Sports Direct, bought Newcastle in 2007 and also has a 4.5% share in Glasgow club Rangers who are currently experiencing a glut of financial uncertainty.
