Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has no plans to sell the club, Toon fans have been told.

The Mirror says the statement came in a meeting between the Newcastle United Supporters' Trust and a panel which included secretary Lee Charnley and finance director John Irving.

A poor showing last season followed by a summer of failure in the transfer market under much-maligned new director of football Joe Kinnear have added to the unease in the stands.

But the Toon Army will take some comfort from the fact the huge loans from Ashley to the club will not be called in anytime soon.
