Mike Ashley is close to selling up at Newcastle United.

The Mail on Sunday says the long drawn-out sale is nearing its close, with one particular buyer reaching the stage of due diligence.

The news will end the uncertainty which has gripped the Tyneside outfit since Ashley announced in the wake of Kevin Keegan's resignation seven weeks ago that he wanted out.

Ashley's reign as owner of Newcastle United could be over by the end of the month and certainly by the turn of the year.
