Mikel Arteta has signed a new one-year deal with Arsenal.
The Spanish midfielder has committed to a further 12 months with the north London club, staying on as captain.
33-year old Arteta, who joined the Gunners from Everton in 2011, had put off his contract talks until the summer but manager Arsene Wenger is delighted that he has put pen to paper ahead of the 2015/16 season.
“He will stay with us for one more year because he has extended his contract," Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“He's one of the leaders in the club because he's the captain of the team. I expect him to contribute much more than last season but he also faces a battle.
“With the number of games we have ahead, we could use his experience, his desire and his quality as it will be vital for next season."
