Manchester City are ready to trump Chelsea to the signing of Lyon defender Mouctar Diakhaby.

The youngster has been linked with Chelsea after breaking into OL coach Bruno Genesio's first team this season.

The 6ft 4ins defender has featured four times for Lyon in Ligue 1 this season and played the full 90 minutes as the French side beat Everton both times in their Europa League group.

The Daily Mail says the 20-year-old has been watched several times by City staff including Mikel Arteta and Txiki Begiristain during Lyon's Europa League win over Everton at Goodison Park last month.

City are aware Lyon have interest in their own defender Eliaquim Mangala who spoke to the French club last summer.
