Arsenal defender Kerrea Gilbert's loan spell at League OneSouthend is in doubt after he was hauled off in a reserve game on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old full-back, who enjoyed a similar spell at Cardiff last season, has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Roots Hall, with his last appearance coming against Gillingham on September 8.

He was taken off after 22 minutes of the game with Peterborough following an exchange of words with reserve-team boss Dean Austin.

"I don't really want to comment," said Austin. "A situation came up and was dealt with straight away."
