Arsenal captain William Gallas is happy manager Arsene Wenger extended his contract through to 2010 last month.

"It's encouraging, especially for the young players," Gallas told his personal website. "Arsene Wenger is a great listener, he let us express ourselves, and believe me, it's a chance for us to have such a great coach who gives you that kind of freedom.

"For instance, he will never blame you if you miss a pass or have poor ball control.

"He knows we can take care of ourselves, and his way of coaching has a big influence on our style of play.

"I can speak about the group [as a captain], but the coach is fully involved and committed so he doesn't need advice from me."
