Arsenal willing to go to £40M for Real Madrid striker Benzema

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining up a bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. The Mirror says Wenger has turned his attentions to Real Madrid superstar Benzema in Arsenal's search for a big-name striker.

Wenger is a long-term admirer of the France international, and is hoping Real will sell him to help fund their world-record move for Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

The Londoners will have to pay around £40million for Benzema and his long-awaited summer spending will not stop there, as they are still in the market to bolster the midfield.

Real may be reluctant to sell Benzema after already selling Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli, but they have the option of pushing Cristiano Ronaldo up as a main striker, with Bale on the left.

They also have youngster Alvaro Morata, top scorer at this summer's European Under-21 Championship, coming through.
