Arsene Wenger has played down suggestions he could go out and do everything he can to sign Karim Benzema.
Given Arsenal's disappointing 2-0 home defeat to West Ham United in their Premier League season opener on Sunday, it has been reported that perhaps Wenger could push to bring in Real Madrid striker Benzema, but the Frenchman insists there will not be a rash reaction on his part.
"I can only repeat: if an exceptional solution turns up we do it," said Wenger.
"But after a defeat like that it's important not to think we must take a solution from outside.
"I would like to think we are responsible to buy the people and the coaches, and not the media. We have to look at ourselves and think we were not good enough."
