Arsenal will be busy in January but will not be held to ransom - Woodcock

Former Arsenal striker Tony Woodcock believes Arsene Wenger will make some signings this January.

According to Woodcock, the Gunners are in need of some strengthening down the spine and are highly likely to pursue some new faces in the winter transfer window.

However, the North London outfit will certainly not pay overs just because they require certain types of players to enhance their title pursuit.

"They need to strengthen. They have been letting in goals left, right and centre over the past few years," Woodcock told Express Sport.

"There has been talk about a new striker. They need to have a backbone throughout the team. They haven't got a solid backbone running through the team.

"It's quite to easy to say they need to buy. You need to target someone who will strengthen the team.

"Arsenal do business. I'm not saying they are refusing to go over the top on payment.

"They just don't want to be held to ransom over a player. It's about which players become available."
