He has been told off by boss Hodgson for trying to emulate the likes of Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “I was probably showboating and he told me not to. I get that from most managers, to be honest. Sometimes I try to do too much, to take on one player too many.
“It’s fair enough – I do. The manager gives you the licence to take people on, so long as it’s in the right area. You don’t want to lose the ball in an area where a counter-attack could be on.
“But young players are expected to make mistakes. It’s how you take it. I have to listen to it, learn from it, and don’t make the same mistake again.”
