Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel is a January target for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

The Mirror says Wenger has sent scouts to spy on the 21-year-old right back after van der Wiel's impressive recent form saw him break into the Dutch national team.

Van der Wiel first caught the eye when Arsenal were watching Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen before his £8.5million switch from Ajax to the Emirates in the summer.

Wenger is now monitoring van der Wiel who is also being watched by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona with Ajax putting him in the £7m bracket.
