Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been warned they need to slash their wage bill.
The Gunners spent £70million on five new players over the summer.
The Daily Mail says during the final weeks of the transfer window the club's primary focus was on trying to offload players rather than adding to the existing squad. Arsenal managed to shift in the region of £14million off their annual wage bill during the transfer window as Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Lucas Perez all left the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal hope to offload Mohamed Elneny to Marseille by the end of the month, which would free up a further £55,000 per week. Danny Welbeck was also available, but the England star has stayed at the Emirates.
But the need to trim Emery's squad will be an ongoing process going into the January window and beyond.
