Arsenal want Jack Wilshere to feature in only one of England's two friendlies this week.
The Daily Mail says Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and Roy Hodgson are understood to have held talks in an attempt to re-invigorate the midfielder's stop-start season.
Because of on-going problems with his right ankle, Wilshere has struggled to re-capture the sort of form that has seen him emerge as one of this country's most promising players.
Wenger is now hopeful that his star midfielder will only play against Chile on Friday and skip Tuesday's clash against Germany.
That would give the 21-year-old a full week to recover for the Premier League clash against Southampton.
