Arsenal do not expect a new offer to arrive from Barcelona for the remainder of the month. Sport says Gunners chiefs know Barca will not be active in the coming days as Sandro Rosell prepares to officially takeover the presidency from Joan Laporta on July 1.
However, after that date, Arsenal know Rosell will return to the negotiating table with a new offer.
Barca GM Joan Oliver, meanwhile, reaffirmed their interest last night: "Arsenal have told us only that in principle they're not interested in the operation.
"Cesc is more or less focusing on the World Cup and this does not change anything. In any case everyone is waiting for the new Barca board and the reaction of Arsenal.
"He's a player under contract in force with another club, but has publicly expressed interest in leaving. The key is that Arsenal must modify its current position, which is not to sell the player."
