Arsenal on verge of having near-full availability says Wenger

Arsenal's injury and illness woes are diminishing by the day with a full list of players to soon be available according to manager Arsene Wenger.

Striker Olivier Giroud and midfielder Tomas Rosicky are expected to return for the weekend's clash with Newcastle United after missing the 1-0 Boxing Day win over Wigan Athletic because of illness.

Midfielder Abou Diaby (thigh) and left-back Andre Santos (abdominal strain) will return to training next week leaving goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski (ankle) and Gervinho (African Cup duties) as notable absentees.

"It is unusual, especially at this period of the season. It is down to the continuing good work we are doing behind the scenes at the club," said Wenger of the current Gunners injury situation.

"We hope that it continues because it is important to go into January with a full squad and we will be losing Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations."
