FC Dallas winger Brek Shea admits his week-long trial with Premier League giants Arsenal this winter improved him as a player.

The 22-year old is looking forward to a big 2012 after a fairly solid 2011 MLS season and says he is now well-equipped to remain at a fairly consistent level.

"I learned a lot watching (Robin) van Persie train during the week and then seeing him play in games on the weekend," Shea said.

"Being in that environment helped me understand my role on the field better.

"I had some good games last year, but really I want to be consistent. This year for me is about balance and never dropping below the standard."
