Arsenal, Tottenham face battle to win Diakhate race

The race for Dynamo Kiev defender Pape Diakhate is heating up.

The Daily Mail says Lille have joined the race to sign Arsenal and Tottenham target Diakhate.

Diakhate has been linked with a move to north London but Lille are determined to sign the Dynamo Kiev defender, who spent last season on loan at St Etienne, and are prepared to offer £5.75million for his services.

Arsene Wenger has made signing a centre-half his main priority this summer with William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre all out of contract.

Lorient's Laurent Koscielny and Germany international Per Mertesacker top the Frenchman's wishlist but a failure to tie up a deal for either player is likely to see him bid for Diakhate.
