Arsenal have failed with a £5 million offer for Lazio midfielder Mobido Diakite.
The Sun says Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been hunting for a powerful centre-half and, at 6ft 4ins, the lightning-quick Diakite fits the Emirates mould.
The Italians want at least £10m for the French-born star.
Diakite has recently returned to the Lazio side after breaking a leg last season and is eligible for the Champions League.
