Arsenal have experienced a close-call in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners took a 1-0 advantage into the second leg at the Stadio Olimpico but it was soon cancelled out as Brazilian defender Juan scored for Roma in just the 9th minute after defenders failed to clear a seemingly harmless dribbling cross.

A tight, tense contest ensued with either side unable to score or create many scoring chances for that matter and the game went into extra-time.

Again there were no goals and the dreaded penalty shoot-out was called for.

Arsenal's Eduardo stepped up first but Doni picked the right way and saved down to his right giving AS a great start.

David Pizarro (Roma) and Robin van Persie (Arsenal) both made their spot-kicks look easy before Marko Vucinic bobbled his shot straight down the centre, making it easy for Manuel Almunia to knock away.

The next 11 penalties all made life difficult for the respective keepers with Samir Nasri (Arsenal) and Francesco Totti (Roma) converting theirs with ease.

Arsenal were in front 7-6 when Max Tonetto stepped up to the spot but the pressure go the better of him and his shot went over the bar, sending the Gunners through to the next round.
