Arsenal have been alerted to news that Riccardo Montolivo has broke off new contract talks with Fiorentina.
The Viola captain is highly admired by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and attracted an approach over the summer.
Last night, Montolivo's agent Giovanni Branchini said: "First things first, I want to say that I have already spoken with Pantaleo Corvino with regard to what was said in a Press Conference on Wednesday.
"I respect him in his role as a director. I think that there are promises owed to the correctness of relationships, which have always been at a high level between us, both cordial and respectful in their nature.
"Corvino's joke was to show the closeness between the two sides. The Viola's director of sport referred to meetings that took place in April when we spoke and didn't find an agreement at the first attempt.
"Now the situation has changed under certain aspects, even if Riccardo's desire is that of renewing his contract with Fiorentina.
"However, for the moment, the player only wants to wait before taking a definitive decision. The financial aspect doesn't figure in any of this. He only wants time before tying himself to Fiorentina for the rest of his career.
"There are no doubts about his attachment to the purple shirt," he concluded.
