Arsenal target Marouane Chamakh is heavily involved in French politics.

The Mirror says the Bordeaux striker is standing as a candidate for the 'MoDem' centrist party in local elections.

Speaking at the launch, striker Chamakh admitted he has been in touch with Arsenal - as well as Liverpool and Tottenham - but insisted he has not yet signed.

But he fuelled speculation when he said: "It's true there are contacts with English clubs, including Arsenal.

"The more it goes, the less I see myself playing for Bordeaux next season."
